The Lord took Gene home and his final journey was swift, but his great effort was not prolonged before God called him home. When we remember Gene, we can remember his positive attitude, jovial demeanor, and cheerful smile. His gifts and legacy were in the way he made people feel. He was blessed with the ability to make one feel at ease. He was a great listener, well-spoken, and a fluent, articulate conversationalist. Gene was a “load-bearer” and hated to burden others. He was a kind-hearted man, who maintained a gentle demeanor in his every-day life and communications. According to his family, Gene was always easy-going and the type of guy that everybody wanted on their team. We can remember how well he made us feel at ease… Gene was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. After high school, he entered the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. When his tour was completed, he returned to Illinois he was employed in the steel mill industry. During this time, Gene married his dedicated wife Edwina in 1989, and became a proud father to his beloved daughter, Chauniqua…. In 1992, the Hatcher’s relocated to Tacoma where in 2003; Gene entered a new career with the Federal Government, working in the Supply and Logistics branch. He enjoyed working for the Directorate of Community Activities (DCA) at Fort Lewis, Washington. We can remember Gene’s excellent work ethic… Gene was a hard-working Christian man who maintained a strong commitment to his Faith. He also attended DeVry University, working to obtain a computer engineering degree. Gene was also a member of the Masonic Temple in Chicago, Illinois. Gene had a passion for listening to gospel, jazz, rap, old-school, rhythm and blues, and easy-listening genres of music. In his pastime, he enjoyed naming tunes, and using the computer to find new songs. However, he was a serious sports enthusiast and would look forward to the Sunday events. We can remember how he reminded us about the simple pleasures in life… Surviving Gene is his lovely wife, Edwina Hatcher and his sweet-hearted daughter, Chauniqua “Nina” Hatcher residing in Tacoma. Gene will be missed by his family and friends. Let’s celebrate Gene’s “Going Home Celebration” as we know he has joined other loved ones that have met the Lord before him. Gene will be greatly missed, but we know that his journey has led him home where he will find peace, and everlasting love. Home to the Lord… The Hatcher’s would like to extend a special thanks and appreciation to all of his work team members for their kind contributions of donated leave and gestures in supporting the family during these past difficult months. Their heart-felt gratitude also goes out to Gene’s close friends who were there for him during his final days and hours. Your unwavering support, prayers, and love for Gene were greatly appreciated. 50, born 8/15/1955 in Chicago, IL and passed away 5/10/2006 in University Place, WA. Psalm 23 I love you and will miss you, Gene... I love you, but God loves you best. Edwina Dad, you were an outstanding father. I appreciate your unconditional love for me…. The time we spent together and the interest that we shared have helped me dedicate a lasting bond of faith and loving care. I’ve learned to trust completely in the guidance that you gave. Knowing that you follow God through every day you lived. You have set a fine example by the care you’ve given me; and I believe you’re everything a man of God should be.
