Obituary of Gunnar John Ostergren

** VETERAN ** Gunnar John Ostergren 81, of Port Orchard died Saturday at Cottesmore of Life Care in Gig Harbor. He was born in Metropolitan, Michigan to George A and Blendad (Legerborg) Ostergren. Graduated high school in Sioux Falls, SD. Gunnar served in the Navy from June 1943 to May 1946, stationed in San Pedro, CA. Gunnar was a true salesman and had many jobs and settled on the Insurance business for 32 years in Bellevue and Port Orchard. He married Shirley McGinnis (the love of his life and best friend) on June 8, 1982 in Port Orchard. Gunnar's life was his devoted family,and love of God. He was a gentle kind man with a twinkle in his blue eyes and a very witty sense of humor, always smiling. Gunnar's last months were spent at Cottesmore in Gig Harbor, where he received the finest care and love from all the staff, they were all his family including the wonderful staff from Franciscan Hospice of Pierce County. Gunnar is survived by his wife Shirley in Port Orchard; his sons, Dr Gregg Ostergren of Gig Harbor, Steve Ostergren of Maple Valley, Scott Ostergren (Jennifer) of Long Beach, CA, Steve Leischner (Sharon) of Beaverton, OR and Tracy Leischner (Patti) of Port Orchard; his daughters, Cindy Yingling (Ken) of Port Townsend, WA, and Kimmie Lancaster (Greg) of Port Orchard; his twin brother Bertel Ostergren in Green Valley, AZ and brother Leonart Ostergren (Joan) in Fort Wayne, IN; Sister-in-law Helen Ostergren in Olympia, WA.; his 13 grandchildren and 1 great grandson. Gunnars Mother, Father, brother Carl and sister Annie proceeded him in death.
