Obituary of Mary Ella Hodge

This is the celebration of the life of Marv Ella Hodge. Mary Ella Myers was the first daughter born to Edward and Elnora Myers (preceded her in death), in St. Louis, Mo in 1923. Her education began in St. Louis where she attended catholic school. She attended college at Castle Air Force Base in Merced, Ca. Mae, as she was affectionately called, was a member of many community services. The National Arbor Day Foundation, The ACLU, The Humane Society and the SPCA. She was also a member of the usher board at Prince of Peace Baptist Church in St. Louis, Mo. Mary was very active throughout her life in church and neighborhood school activities. She was Administrative Secretary of St. Rest Missionary Baptist Church; she taught Sunday school at True Light Missionary Baptist Church; she was an active member of the Willing Workers Auxiliary at St. Andrews Missionary Baptist Church. Along with her achievements she received a commendation from the City of Los Angeles for the first recording Secretary Chartered member at Manchester Avenue Elementary School where she was also President of the Block Parent Group. She also received a certificate of Appreciation at Cienega School from the Los Angeles Unified School District. Mary was also active in other groups and organizations. She was a member of the Eastern Stars, St. Andrews Lodge Division of the Health Unit, and Ancient York Masons as the recording Secretary. Mary E. Hodge had four sisters, who all preceded her in death, Willa Mae Jones, Juanita Myers Satterfield, Lenora Myers Clements, and Cleola Cole, and one brother Jasper Johnson. Mary married Leander Hodge (who preceded her in death) in 1946. With this union she had three daughters, Lenora Judy Hodge (who preceded her in death), Louolia Pat Hodge Turks, and Phyllis Hodge, and one son Kerry Hodge all residing in the state of Washington. Mae also leaves three step children Leander Hodge, Jr., Sheri Hodge, and Faye Davis all from California. There are numerous relatives that were special to Mae: Daughter-in-law: Annie Stubs Hodge. Four grandchildren: Acuba Turks (preceded her in death), Aboru Turks, Janicia and Ameara Hodge. Great-grandchildren: Tahjae, Avel and Alaysia Turks, Miyah Christian, Donald Smith Jr. Nieces: Cleola Postelle, Pamela Alexander, La-Tanya Alexander, Michelle Postelle Ross. Nephews: Isaac Alexander, Floyd Clements, Anthony Hodge, Anthony Alexander, Tommy Walker, David Alexander, DelVaughn Alexander, Bobby Swayne Jr. and Yero Swayne. God Children: Jerome Gavin, Ronnie Petrie, Alfred Quinn, Mary Jones, Patricia Richardson, Linda Pearson, Joyce Brown. And still many more nieces, nephews and special friends ... Mary touched many hearts through out the years and will be missed deeply.
