I was shocked and saddened to learn of Dr Merriam's passing. I was a patient of his at the time of his death. I'd seen many other doctors for a mysterious flushing condition I have, but none with his ability, and willingness, to pursue every avenue. He installed confidence. He seemed very smart yet without pretension. And he seemed to have a cheerful robustness to him that always surprised me even as I looked forward to it. I didn't know him well, but I will miss him.

I am so saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Merriam. Dr. Merriam took a chance on me one year ago June by agreeing to put me on an insulin pump that dispensed hydrocortisone for my Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia...when nothing else had been working and my health had been going downhill. It hadn't been done in the US before this..but Dr Merriam contacted a doctor in London for me that had done it there. He made a huge difference in my life by going out on a limb for me. I will be forever grateful for his kindness. What a wonderful doctor, he talked with me rather than talked down to me, he was always so energetic and excited to talk about medicine and new and upcoming things. What a brilliant man with a wonderful sparkle to his eyes. I will really miss him and my deepest condolences to his family.

My deepest sympathy to George's wife and daughter , to John, Charlotte, and Susan, and with great fondness and sadness to his mother Martha ( Marty as I knew her) . George's parents and my parents, Peggy and Graham Clark, were great friends for years. I remember that, even when he was young, my father had such admiration for George and his potential, and was a fan of all the brothers and sisters as they grew up . How proud he would have been to know of the full life that George led ! I know that there are no 'right' words at this time, but I am so very sorry . Margo

So very sorry to hear of the loss of such an accomplished member of our Merriam family. I am a cousin to Jerry Boor (our mothers were first cousins). Unfortunately, I have not been able to attend the Merriam House festivities back East, but always try to keep up with the family news. Again, my sincere condolences to all who knew and loved George. -- Marie Merriam Willhoite (daughter of Leo and Alice Merriam)

It was such a shock and a sadness to learn about George passing. George was my mentor, back in the 90's, when I did a post-doc at NIH. He was not only a brilliant scientist but also an excellent pedagogue. In the last years, I had the chance to meet him at international meeting and shared our common interest for women health. I will never forget his constant smile and his extreme kindness. All my sympathy to you Suzanne and Kelsey.

I am very sad to hear about George. We went to high school together in Englewood, NJ. George was my idol back in 1961-1965. I even bought a pocket protector because he always had one. Strange coincidence that my daughter worked at U of Washington and knew of George, but never knew until today that we went to high school together. God bless George and his family.

I was a patient of Dr Merriam for a short time. The first time I met with him, I knew he was a man worth knowing. I'm quite certain that he enriched the lives of everyone he met. Nuff said.
