Obituary of James Oliver Roy

James Oliver Roy was born oldest of five children in Green Bay, Wisconsin October 7, 1933 and went to 'sleep' on March 14, 2008, to await the resurrection as promised in John 5:28-9. He is survived by his wife Joy, his two children Jennifer Marratt and husband Bill, Oliver Roy and wife Sharon two granddaughters Grace Roy and Sofia Roy and new granddaughter in July. Also his five step-children Charmae Villegas, husband Julian, Jason Gatchell, wife Nicole, Jeremy Gatchell, wife Kristina, Charee Goolia, husband Neal, Charla Johnson, husband Toby; a foster daughter Kathy Fredricks, four siblings Joey Wemple, husband John, Robert Roy, wife Nobako, Alta Sloan, husband Richard, and John Paul Roy, plus nieces and nephews and many close friends. He had many loves in his life. His love of learning and teaching caused him to pursue a career in education earning Doctorates in education and psychotherapy. He developed a masters program for the University of Puget Sound while teaching there. As a talented cook Jim loved to create wonderful new gourmet meals most of which he labeled "Kitchen Surprise", never concocting the same recipe twice. He loved being healthy which is why he ran the Sound to Narrows Race 15 times. His love of flying enabled him to become a pilot and a captain in the Air Force. His love of people guided him to become a high school teacher, a guidance counselor, a college professor and a psychotherapist. He loved the Green Bay Packers whether they won or lost. He loved to recount the times he watched them play at Lambeau Field, sometimes hanging on the back fence, or watching the famous Ice Bowl game. Later in life Jim's love of learning brought him to a new venue. He learned through an extensive study of the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses what it means to have an intimate relationship with his Creator. As he appreciated the wonderful hope held out in the Bible for living forever in a paradise he again turned to teaching, as a community volunteer, bringing this hope to any that wanted to hear. Jim has had a way of touching people's lives. He has helped those with emotional needs and spiritual needs in addition to educating both adults and children. He will be greatly missed by all of those whose lives he has impacted. A memorial was held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Fircrest, Washington on March 16, 2008 with many in attendance Arrangements by Edwards Memorial Center 253-566-1008
