I did not know Bert very well, but it didn't take much to see that he was a big gruff bear of a guy with an equally big heart. My heart goes out to his friends and family - he will be missed.

I knew Bert as a neighbor of my fried Evelyn Olson. Bert was very kind to Evelyn and kept an eye on her. (she is his Mother's age). Bert saved his aluminum cans and gave them my my sons Johnny and Danny. I am so sorry Bert had to suffer cancer. He deserved a much longer life. Bert will be missed in our ne tacoma neighborhood.

A better friend you could not find. This is devistating I've known bert for 27 years now, Him and his dad hired into Red Dot 2 month's after me. Their easy going nature and the love of a good joke found them a home real quick. Day's are tough without him Butch Gibson

Goodbye Bert, my Friend. My life was so rich with your friendship in it. Now it will have to be rich with the memories I have of you. We had some good times and some not so good times, but through all of them, you showed a character and qualities that were always above question or reproach, even when faced with people and situations that would challenge the best of us. I learned a lot from you about the things we did together, the world around us, and about the kind of person that I would strive to be. I know I will fall short but I'll keep trying, I know you'll be watching. I wondered for a long time about why you had become such a happy, contented fellow the last couple of years (even more than usual). Then I met Janina, and I knew you had found your match, your Dearheart. Isn't it wonderful to love someone unconditionally Bert? I'm so glad the two of you had the great times together that you did, and I will be there for her as a friend as I was for you. I've known two people in my life that I count as my best friends, yourself and Norm. Ive lost you and will soon lose Norm to the same affliction. Please say hello to him and show him around when he gets there Bert. I love you and miss you Big Guy.

Bert was our neighbor for years and the one thing we will always remember was the sound of that big red truck coming home from work and that wonderful smile. Bert will be missed by everyone that knew him. I know his dream came true the day he fell in love with Janina and married. You are missed but never, ever forgotten. We will watch over Janina. The kindest, most compassionate man I have ever known. I am proud to say he was my Cousin. When he met Janina, I have never seen him so happy. His dream was finally fulfilled when they married, and became part of a real family who loved him more than words can say. Bert, you will be missed and in my heart forever. I LOVE YOU!!!!

I remember meeting Bert one Sunday morning many, many years ago. I used to bowl with my grandfather and his friends. One of his friends was Cliff Cuppinger, also a friend of Bert's. I remember watching Bert bowl and saying to myself, ' man that guy throws the ball real hard. That was my first encounter with Bert. We were both hired at Red Dot on the same day, 5-14-1979.We both kind of recognized each other and said 'hey, haven't we met?' From there we worked together at times and in general became work friends. Somewhere over the years Bert was nicknamed 'Pretty Boy' I think by one of his other work mates. So for the last several years I called him Pretty Boy or 'PB' for short and he called me 'bub'. He liked that word, bub. The thing I liked best about Pretty Boy was his no nonesense approach to work in general. He was old school, in that when you were at work, you were here to work and that was it. I really admired that about him because, that mentality doesn't exist in today's world. I will miss PB. R.I.P. Greg Nelson Red Dot Corporation

Berts love of the outdoors and mine were a quick connect for our friendship. It was a no brainer and I will truely miss Bert as will all of us who crossed paths with him. Seeing him easily brings a smile and his heart was even bigger than his stature! This was truely sad to hear but even his picture still brings a smile. I will truely miss swapping stories with him about our outdoor adventures... I wish the best for his family in this difficult time. My condolenses to all

I worked with Bert for 16 plus years here at Red Dot. He was the lead in the Punch Press area and I was his assistant. He taught me so much about life with his giving heart. He also was quite a prankster. I remember somebody getting their peanut butter and jam sandwhich put in between two peices of metal and then run over with a fork lift. The hole in the soda can was priceless. Having your shirt get soaked with pop before you knew it would make his day. He will missed by all.
