Obituary of Joyce Marie Hatcher

79, born November 4, 1927 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and passed away April 27, 2007 in University Place, Washington. Joyce was a gregarious energetic homemaker with a passion for arts and crafts. She was a genuinely kind person who cared about her family and others. She started college at the age of 40 where she was on the dean’s list and honor society. She received her AA degree at Fullerton Junior College. Instead of pursuing a career, she became a caretaker for her husband Ray Hatcher during his long illness until he passed in 1992. When she became a widow, she sold her house in Oregon and bought a condo in Seattle, WA where she enjoyed her friends, volunteering at the Senior Center, and tutoring children. In 2003, she sold her condo and bought a home in Tacoma, WA because she wanted to have a garden. She socialized and did volunteer work for her church and pursued her craft hobbies of making dolls and teddy bears. Joyce had a myriad of interests in arts and crafts and was very active until her last few months of her life. Joyce is survived by her 3 children, Georgia Manfredi of Everett, WA, Thomas (Mary) Hatcher of Elephant Butte, NM, Michele (Mark) Allard of Tacoma, WA; brother, George Sinderson of Las Vegas, NV; 2 grandchildren, Cole and Charmaine; friends, Marge, Betty, and Ethel. Funeral service to be held 11AM Thursday, May 3, 2007 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 1207 S. 43rd St., Tacoma, WA, 98408. Graveside service to be held at 1:45 PM at Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 SE 240th ST., Kent, WA 98042. Arrangements by Edwards Memorial Center 253-566-1008.
