My only regret is that I was not able to learn more about this great man before he passed. (Although I couldn't spend as much time as I would have liked with him, my mom has taken a lot of strength and wisdom from my grandfather, and has passed it on to all of us!) I will always remember the great times I had with my grampy, and I know now he is in a better place looking down on us all. My thoughts and prayers go out to all my family, wish I could have been there. I hope you all understand. Until we meet again grampy, love always!!!! xoxoxoxox KYLA

Barton O. Russell was my grandfather, a wonderful man with a colorful personality. I only wish I had gotten to know him better before he slipped away, and I know he will be sorely missed by his friends and family. God Bless. Kellie

Dad, I thank my lucky stars that all the cards fell the way they did; For we had the opportunity to share a really special bond. A few things that have, and will always remind me of you; old, red pick up trucks, Roger Miller songs, dry roasted planters peanuts, polished rocks. (Don't worry, I only snuck one or two without replacing them...) Dad, I miss you already, and will until we meet again. I, as well as many others, have been fortunate to share time with you. You made me see up when I could only manage to look down at times. All my love...xoxo

Uncle Bart, a man of many qualities and personalities. He could be as stubburn as a mule and as kind as a four leaf clover. 30 years have come and gone since we first met, what a boat load of memories I have. Remember me taking your daughter out for my first truck ride with a girl? We never really ran out of gas! You were one of a kind and we shared alot of the same things. You being a ruff neck like myself, we could talk drill pipe while the rest of the world tried running cranes. I believe I shared one of my first drinks with you when I saw you escort one of the neighbors out the back door by his nose... remember... I do. You were and still are the best freind my da ever had, we will all miss you and your spirit, say hi to Mom and uncle Warren for me, I'll take care of my little sister ( Bridget) while your away, until we meet again, I tip my glass to the best Uncle I ever had. Love you Kev

Bart and I went back to 1960 when I reported aboard the SSBN608(B) We would run into each other now and then. After retiring in 1975 and returning to my home in Gig Harbor I ran into Bart one day downtown and we renewed our acquaintance by having a beer at the tides. Bart was a submarine man all the way,but the old boats were his real love. I visited him now and then, not often enough, but we always had a good chat and enjoyed cussing out the local developers for one reason or another. I never failed to give him a wave and call from my boat to give him the fishing report.I hope to join him another day in the chiefs quarters for a cup of coffee.

There are several memories I have of my grupmy grandpa. That nickname is one of them. He was not grumpy at all. Although grandpa had a tough exterior, his heart was kind and full of love for his family. I will miss his laugh, and his words of wisdom that were always shared on our visits out to Washington. (Most of which are not appropriate to repeat). While things may seem difficult for everyone right now, I keep my spirits up by thinking how grandpa would want us to act. He lived a long, fufilled life and he wouldn't want anyone to be sad. I imagine him sitting up in heaven looking over us all, fishing and listening to Jimmy Buffett. Rest in peace Grumpy Grandpa, I love you. Megan

We are all very sad to hear of Bart's passing. Our condolences and hearts go out to all of his family. Bart had a positive impact on many lives and will be greatly missed by all. I enjoyed his humor and quick wit-- He always made me laugh when I visited him with Bridget. Always remember that now Bart can now watch over those who meant the most to him and guide them through their journey of life.

I have nothing but the greatest respect for Bart. I consider him as more than a fater-in-law, but a friend. He was a great man, and I am a better one for getting to know him. I will never forget the look on his face when I asked for Bridget's hand in marrage. He kept struggeling when any normal man would have quit. He is one of my heros. Thank you for being part of my life.

My favorite memory of Uncle Bart is when he came back to see Grandma. I had not seen him since he terrorized us :) with the inspections and the voice intercom when we came to Denver to see everyone. I remember telling him that he wasn't so scary because I was now taller than he was. He looked me in the eye and said I had better still be scared..this came with a hug. I am so glad that he had everyone there when he needed them. Take care. Sharyl

Bridget, Uncle Bob and I want you to know how sad we were to hear about your Dad's passing. We know he has been struggling for a long time and God had decided to take him home for a rest. We thank you God and we ask that you give the family the strength to carry on and remember the great times we all had. I can remember visiting Russ when he lived in Aurora Colorado and when they came to visit us in Castle Rock. We always had a great time and since Uncle Bob was in the Navy also, they had lots to talk about. You are all in our hearts and prayers. We love you
