Obituary of Zolka Mary Sims

Zolka M. Sims, 88, passed away December 10, 2006; she was born in Hoquiam, WA on July 16, 1918. In 1945 she married Charles H. Hoover, Jr. of Hoquiam where they lived until he passed in 1965. In 1971 she married James W. Sims of Aberdeen where they lived until he passed in 1988, shortly after she moved to Tacoma to be closer to her family. During most of her working life Zolka was a legal secretary for a law firm in Aberdeen. In retire¬ment she was always full of energy and very active where she enjoyed long and frequent walks, golfing, exercising, and spending time at her cabin at Mason Lake. Zolka was also active in local clubs and organizations including St. Leo Parish, the 1918 Club, Seniors on Stage, Aberdeen Elks, Eagles, Oaksridge Golf Club, Newcomers Club, Highland Golf and Tennis Club, Mason Benson Center. An avid reader and world traveler Zolka visited various foreign countries including the country of her nationality in Dugi Otok, Birbinj, Dalmacia (Croatia), and traveled throughout the United States. A very loving and generous mother, Zolka is survived by her daughter Ann Burkey of Gig Har¬bor, WA; her son Charles Hoover of Des Moines, WA; stepdaughter Patricia (Sims) Martinsen of Aberdeen, WA; eight grandchildren and eight-great-grandchildren. Zolka spent her most recent years at Olympic Alzheimer's Residence in Gig Harbor and the family would like to thank the loving care given to her during her residency. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations could be made to the Alzheimer's foundation in her name. A service will be held at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 3510 Rosedale Street, Gig Harbor on Monday, December 18, 2006 at 10 AM. Arrangements by Edwards Memorial Center 253-566-1008
