Norm was born on April 14, 1924 in Bashaw, Alberta, Canada to Jacob and Petronella Wiebe. In his early years, the family moved to the Oregon coast and eventually settled in Portland. During WWII Norm worked at the shipyards in Portland and went on to work many other jobs in construction and other industries. In the late 1950’s, he worked as a salesman and then manager with the Singer Sewing Machine Company. This career took him from Portland to Astoria and finally to Tacoma in 1966 where he managed the downtown Singer store for several years. The last decade or so of his career was spent in sales and as a sheet metal worker in Tacoma and Portland. Throughout his life, Norm took pride in all the work he did, which included remodeling and restoring several family homes. After his retirement in the mid-1980’s, Norm devoted much of his time to his family, home, and hobbies, including gardening, writing, and traveling. Our Dad was a man who could be counted on. There was scarcely a job or problem that he didn’t know how to fix. Sincere and direct, and always willing to help, he was incredibly inventive and industrious, strong in both mind and body. The wisdom of this being will live on in all who knew and loved him. Norm is survived by his sweetheart, Sherrell Leary of Tacoma, WA; daughter, Patria (Bill) Lebo of Lake Forest Park, WA; five sons, Denny (Pam) Cameron of Sutherland, OR, Larry (Judy) Wiebe of Yachats, OR, Gary (Ann) Wiebe of Waldport, OR, Ken (Kathi) Wiebe of Tacoma, Paul (Mary) Wiebe of Tacoma; 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; four brothers; and one sister. Norm’s life will be remembered and celebrated 2:00 PM Friday, April 14, 2006 at Lakeview Congregational Chapel 4606 108th St. SW, Lakewood, WA.
