Obituary of Esther Irene Gigous

Esther Irene McClain Gigous of Olalla, Washington, a former resident of Coulee Dam, was born in Sarben, Nebraska, on June 4th, 1923, to Lavina Boyer Davidson McClain and James Nathan McClain. She was 83 years old when she went to her heavenly home on February 13th 2007. When she was a very young child her family moved from Sarben to Fruitland, Idaho, where they lived for several years before moving to Osborn,Washington, just outside Electric City, Washington. Her father and several brothers helped build Grand Coulee Dam. When she was 17, her brother Earl introduced her to her future husband, Johnny Gigous. They were married December 21, 1941, at Grand Coulee, moving immediately to Suquamish, Washington, where Johnny worked at the Keyport Naval Station. When Johnny accepted a position as Powerhouse Operator at the Dam, they moved back to Coulee Dam. Esther is survived by her daughter Sharee (Sharon) and her husband Keith of Olalla, Washington; her granddaughter Laurie Fletcher and husband Eddie, and by her grandson Andy Odegard and wife Meredith. Her surviving great-grandchildren are Iliah Ann, daughter of Andy and Meredith, and Kristen Noelle and Emily Elizabeth, daughters of Laurie and Eddie, all of the Olalla area. Her daughter Jonnalu (Robert) Ray and their three children, Jeff, Jon, and Stephanie, went to Heaven in the spring of 1973 as a result of a car accident. Also surviving are Cheryl Browning Piturachsatit of Grand Coulee, Curtis Browning of Spokane and Debbie Browning Piturachsatit of Ephrata, as well as Ruth Davidson, widow of her brother Edwin, Veida McClain, widow of her brother Raymond, Marge McClain, widow of her brother Clyde, and Hank Prosise, widower of her sister Myrtle. Many beloved nieces, nephews, relatives and friends also survive her. She was the last surviving member of the McClain family and one of 15 children. When her mother married her father, she brought her children Orville, Ethel, Edwin, Flossie and Ray Davidson to the marriage. Her father brought his children Elmer, Howard, Raymond, Mary, Myrtle, Clyde and Earl to the marriage. Together her parents had Esther, Ruby and Opal. A memorial service will be held at a later date and memorials may be made to Hospice of Kitsap County, PO Box 3416, Silverdale, WA, 98383.
