Obituary of Hazel Patton Eickworth

Hazel Elliott Patton Eickworth Hazel was born 1917 in San Francisco, California, a third generation Californian. She met Ernest August Eickworth at a Rainbow Girls/Demolay function and they married in 1939. She joined him in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he was stationed during World War II. They returned to San Francisco where their two daughters were born, and in 1951 bought a house in Palo Alto, California and raised their family there. Hazel worked at Stanford University Medical Center as the business manager of the Department of Psychiatry until she retired in 1981. She and Ernie built their retirement home in Mariposa, California, just outside Yosemite National Park. They were active their church (St. Andrew’s Episcopal Mission) and community organizations for 20 years. They loved to travel and visited nearly every continent in the world. They especially loved Hawaii and vacationed there at least once a year. Hazel and Ernie were married 54 years. Hazel moved to a retirement apartment in San Diego, California, in 2002 to be closer to her daughter, Carol. In 2004 she moved to Pt. Defiance Village in Tacoma Washington to be close to her daughter, Barbara and her grandson, Casey. She attended St. Luke’s Memorial Episcopal Church. Hazel passed away at home on July 31, 2007, after a lengthy illness. Her daughter, Barbara, and caregivers Lidia and Jane provided loving care for her. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Turecky, and Carol Killebrew (Warren) and grandson, Casey Turecky; also by her cat, Missy. Her husband, Ernie Eickworth, sister, Virginia Hall, and son in law, Robert Turecky, preceded her in death. Memorial service will be at St. Luke’s Memorial Episcopal Church (3615 North Gove St., Tacoma) on Wednesday, August 15, 2007, at 2:30 pm. She will be interred next to her husband, parents and sister at Alta Mesa Cemetery in Palo Alto, California. Remembrances may be made to your favorite charity.
