Obituary of Irene Mary Curran

Irene Mary Curran Mary Curran, 69, left this earth peacefully in the early morning hours of May 30, 2015. She will be missed by many as she was a very kind and gentle soul; she had a loving and generous heart, and was always giving to others. Her bright smile and warm sense of humor will never be forgotten. Mary was born in Tacoma on August 11, 1945, oldest daughter of the late Leigh and Irene Larson. She grew up in Old Town Tacoma along with her four siblings and, according to her, fell in love when she was just a baby with the little boy who lived across the street. She graduated from Stadium High School in 1963 and married that boy the same year. She and her husband, Gordy, were a team for 52 years, celebrating their anniversary just a week before Gordy lost the love of his life and best friend. Throughout their years together, Mary raised three children while working in various restaurant and retail establishments. She was a cook for Hanks Alibi and the Office taverns, opened the local Kmart as a front checkout manager, and worked at Albertsons, from the time it first opened in the area, until she retired as deli manager in 2000. In her spare time, Mary enjoyed many hobbies including crocheting, reading, going to the casino with friends, and trips to the ocean, but the greatest joy in her life was spending time with her six grandchildren. She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her; devoted husband of 52 years, Gordon Curran; her three children, Mary Kay Curran, Gordon Jr. (Dorothy) Curran, and Penny (Darrin) Kreil; two brothers, Robert and Leigh Larson; and six grandchildren who were the light of her life, Damon, Jasmine, Amber, Paige, Nathan and Fisher. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by a brother Mickey Larson; and a sister Rose Nagy. Services will be held Saturday, June 13th at 2:00 pm at Sumner Family Church located at 1400 Silver St., Sumner, WA 98390. Friends and family are invited to join us in celebration of Marys life.
