Obituary of Virginia Genevieve Jacobson

Virginia (Drazga) Jacobson November 30, 1921 - August 21, 2008 Our beloved wife, mother, and sister left us to join her family in heaven. Mom fought hard during her last week to hold on until her 59th wedding anniversary. With incredible resolve, she was able to make it to that very day. Born and raised in Tacoma, Washington, Mom lived her entire life here. She loved this area and she and Dad traveled often to scenic areas along the peninsula, the coast, and Eastern Washington. She loved her "Mountain" and when she said, "This is God's country." she wasn't kidding. She was an extraordinary woman who was not only devoted to her family, but also to her Catholic roots. A lifetime member of Visitation Parish in South Tacoma, she made sure that her children and grandchildren had a Catholic education. Virginia was artistic and creative in all that she did. She was a master at crocheting, macrame, glass painting, and nearly anything she put her hand to. As an avid reader and an expert crossword puzzler, she often worked the Sunday, New York Times crossword in ink. She loved action movies, and reading the daily paper (which she read from cover to cover, including the sports page). The radio in our home was on from morning until night and Mom would sing along in her beautiful soprano. A perfectionist in all that she did Mom kept an immaculate home, and was an amazing cook and baker of delicate puff pastries among other treats. With a black belt in shopping, she found bargains from Nordstroms to the Goodwill and could make anything look good. She always made sure that her grandkids had everything from clothes to toys, and doted on them with endless love. Mom and Dad were married for 59 years and he was the only man she ever really loved. Since his retirement, Dad has lovingly cared for her 24 hours a day as she gradually slipped away from us due to Alzheimer's disease. Dad could never imagine putting her in a nursing home, and cared for her at home where she died at 2:10 AM on her wedding anniversary with her family at her side. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Magdalena Drazga, her brothers, Ted and Joe, and her sons, Stephen and Mark. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, Sigurd Jacobson, her children Lana deMille, Gary (Susan) Jacobson, grandchildren Michelle and Christina deMille, and Josh and Jeremy Jacobson, and her sister, Bernice (Marvin) Robinson. In accordance with her wishes, no services are planned. She asked to be cremated and have her ashes scattered in the desert of Nevada. In lieu of flowers, please send donation to Franciscan Hospice, 2901 Bridgeport Way W, University Place, WA, 98466. Special thanks to everyone at Franciscan Hospice, Gentiva Health Services, Linda Brooks, Dr. Brand, Linda Bowen, Nurse Joanne, and especially her daughter-in-law Susan Jacobson RN. The family will host a time of remembrance at the family home on August 30th from Noon until 4:00 pm.
