On September 11, 2021, our beautiful mom, Elaine Coomber, entered the gates of Heaven.
Born November 17, 1939 to Albert and Edith Konsmo, she lived most of her life in the Tacoma area.
At the age of 16, she married the first and everlasting love of her life, Ralph. Together they raised three children, setting a grand example in the importance of faith, family, respect, and a strong work ethic. They enjoyed a happy 47 year marriage, until dad passed in 2003.
Mom worked in the retail industry in various roles for Konsmo Appliance, Peoples Store, Penneys and Kohls. She had a 40 plus year career in Mary Kay Cosmetics, earning numerous awards and cars, including a pink cadillac. At one point she attained the level of Senior Director. Mary Kay Cosmetics was the source of many deep friendships and relationships, and of course the key to her continuing beauty.
Mom loved to travel. Family vacations were simple, driving rather than flying to save money. Later in life, her favorite place to visit was Hawaii. Mom and dad made numerous trips there, often sharing the time with close friends.
She loved to be amidst glitz and glamour, dressing and decorating her home to the nines. Not a holiday or sub holiday ever went by without the proper motif carried out in some manner.
She relished in the arrival of grandchildren, and eventually great grandchildren. She was always ready and willing to care for, spoil, and entertain them. Adventures such as the zoo, parks, Disney on Ice and of course the local DQ were as much for her benefit as they were for the kids.
In the last few years, a great source of joy was her little yorkie, Taffy. She accompanied her everywhere, typically dressed according to the weather and/or season.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, son Warren, granddaughter Janelle, and sister Karen.
She is survived by her daughters Rene Knudson and Denise Kieffer, son in law Rich Knudson, daughter in law Lori Coomber; grandchildren Chris (Sky) and Kevin Cheslik, Brittany (Scott) Hess, Andrew Coomber, Anna (Thomas) Cunningham, David (Vanessa) Knudson; great-grandchildren Jaxxon, Charlie, Dakota and Jude Cheslik, Mary Grace Hess, Mia Cunningham and Ellis Knudson; Brothers Ed (Pam) and Wes (Linda) Konsmo. Additionally, many cousins, nieces and nephews from the large Konsmo and Coomber clans.
A celebration of Elaine’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on November 5 at the Life Center Chapel, 1717 So Puget Sound in Tacoma. In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.
We greatly appreciate all the lovely cards, thoughts, prayers, and support we are receiving from friends and family following Mom’s sudden passing. Mom would want us to carry on, cheering for the Seahawks, enjoying a good glass of wine, enjoying each other’s company, and when things go awry, make a simple declaration of “Whatever!!”
Rest in peace, Mom. Until we meet again, enjoy your grand reunions in Heaven!
